Passionate Promise of Commitment to Community Safety
Suzanne promises that public safety of the Douglas County community remains as the top priority of the District Attorney’s Office.
Suzanne promises to continue to collaborate with the vast array of Douglas County community partners to promote a network of involvement and support for alternatives to incarceration for low-level offenders.
Suzanne promises to continue to provide a victim-centered and trauma-informed approach to prosecution. Supporting victims and survivors during some of the worst days of their lives is a priority of the District Attorney’s Office.
Proven Leadership through Adaptability
As District Attorney, Suzanne embraces her role as an “independent prosecutor”, where she leads the executive branch as Douglas County’s chief law enforcement officer separate from the judicial and legislative branches of local government.
As District Attorney, Suzanne has encouraged transformation of her office into a model for criminal justice reform. When appropriate, her office works collaboratively with community partners to provide robust alternative programs to incarceration with the goal of reducing the criminal justice footprint. Alternatively, the criminal justice system is used to hold violent offenders accountable when public safety is paramount.
As District Attorney, Suzanne and her office are transparent and accountable to the public through use of a new electronic case management reporting system, office website, and social media platforms so that the community can be frequently and appropriately informed.
Experience and Continuity in Mission
Suzanne’s office will continue to ensure public safety by aggressively prosecuting violent crimes involving child and adult sexual assault, interpersonal violent crimes, and all gun violence.
Suzanne’s office will continue to prosecute all illegal distributors of controlled substances, including fentanyl, which has claimed the lives of many loved ones in our community and beyond.
Suzanne is committed to continued growth of alternatives to incarceration such as the addition of a Veterans Treatment Court alongside the existing Behavioral Health Court and Drug Court, as well as increased engagement in restorative justice practices when appropriate. Suzanne’s office will continue to provide abundant diversion opportunities.
